Course Description
Experiments in Physical Science: A Laboratory Manual(Credit: 1 hour)
Average equivalent
ECTS 2
Description
This course provides experience with the procedures, techniques, and outcomes of a selection of
classical and modern experiments. Our studies will include formulation of problems, processing of
data, and drawing of conclusions. The experiments in this course are illustrative of the concepts and
principles introduced in GSC1103. Students will have the opportunity to investigate these concepts and
principles by going through the same thought processes scientists would use in the laboratory.
Not every student will be able to complete the actual experimental procedures. For this reason, data is
provided that was obtained by a student or students who completed the experiments under controlled
conditions. Carefully studying the experimental procedures and processing of the data will provide you
with an authentic experience in scientific thinking.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
1.
Comprehend and apply the scientific principles you have studied previously.
2.
Comprehend and apply the experimental, observational, or descriptive activities illustrative of
scientific principles.
3.
Apply scientific methods in carrying out real and virtual experiments.
4.
Observe the world around you and develop an appreciation for the Creator and for scientists
throughout history who have sought knowledge.
5.
Demonstrate the principles of natural science through your examinations of the earth and the
universe.
