Description

How does one relate the Bible to contemporary church life? In the Corinthians Study Guide, the author helps the student do this through an in-depth study of the Corinthian letters. He begins with exegesis, teaching the student how to use this method of Bible study to understand the problems faced by first- century Corinthian believers. Then, for each major problem the apostle Paul dealt with, the author suggests a possible solution or an interpretation that can be applied to the church today. This course is especially helpful to those who wish to preach and teach as it demonstrates a methodology of Bible interpretation. An overview of 2 Corinthians is also included in this study.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: 1. Identify the nature of the problems described in 1 Corinthians, and explain Paul’s solutions. 2. Explain the nature of the exegetical difficulties in certain passages of 1 Corinthians, and defend the interpretations you favor. 3. Select a good commentary for any other New Testament book by the method of evaluation learned in this course. 4. Demonstrate basic exegetical skills by applying the method learned in 1 Corinthians to selected sections of 2 Corinthians. 5. Consider the answers Paul gives to specific problems in the church at Corinth, and apply these answers to similar problems in your church. 6. Apply the principles taught in 1 and 2 Corinthians to your life and ministry.
