Description
How does one relate the Bible to contemporary church life? In the Corinthians Study Guide, the author
helps the student do this through an in-depth study of the Corinthian letters. He begins with exegesis,
teaching the student how to use this method of Bible study to understand the problems faced by first-
century Corinthian believers. Then, for each major problem the apostle Paul dealt with, the author
suggests a possible solution or an interpretation that can be applied to the church today. This course is
especially helpful to those who wish to preach and teach as it demonstrates a methodology of Bible
interpretation. An overview of 2 Corinthians is also included in this study.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
1.
Identify the nature of the problems described in 1 Corinthians, and explain Paul’s solutions.
2.
Explain the nature of the exegetical difficulties in certain passages of 1 Corinthians, and defend
the interpretations you favor.
3.
Select a good commentary for any other New Testament book by the method of evaluation
learned in this course.
4.
Demonstrate basic exegetical skills by applying the method learned in 1 Corinthians to selected
sections of 2 Corinthians.
5.
Consider the answers Paul gives to specific problems in the church at Corinth, and apply these
answers to similar problems in your church.
6.
Apply the principles taught in 1 and 2 Corinthians to your life and ministry.
